The final touches were put upon the paint and the third floor. The team of six workers and a shaman that Alexi had hired had completely transformed the estate that Kiwi had put money down on to begin with. It was now transformed into something more than a home, it was a three-story fortress.
When you pull up into the street, you notice there's a lot of trees in this corner of town already. Obscuring vision, obstructing your ability to get an impression as to the three-story estate, the entire point is to dissolve good visual and astral perceptions of the place. The Node is even shrouded, difficult to trace and get fixes on AR signatures in the building. [3 extra hits required on perception tests from the outside looking in]
The cars go into the garage fairly easy, up the driveway. There's a few archaic-looking levers and switches. A car elevator is positioned in here, big enough to drive a tank in and lower it down to the lower level. A door exits into the house. Another door goes into the greenhouse through an air cycle unit so that whatever chill in the garage there might be does not penetrate inside.
If you go into the ground floor of the house, there's a spacious living room with at least eight different modern pieces of furniture, depending on the given day. The kitchen has a refrigerator designed for a mother of twelve, given the large number of people that cycle through the apartment as it is. Lots of meat is a staple, as well as compartments specifically designed to give the proper temperatures to fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. A lot of eggs get eaten here, a custom egg cracker and dispenser visible on the outside of the fridge. Everything is able to be operated mechanically, there is a dearth of AR interface with many of the appliances. Hands-on is the rule. You might notice the large numbers of place where visibility is broken up by the design of the place, concealable metal panels in the wall that can be brought out for purposes of cover, and other capabilities of the place. [Security Conscious - You may always claim Cover or Partial Cover in the building if you are familiar with it.]
If you go into the greenhouse, you're greeted with row upon row of bioengineered fast-growing greens of a distinctly large variety. There's even a dozen trees in here, the greenhouse seemingly vast when you step into it. CLimate controls are constantly regulated by the internal thermostats and a warning beep sounds when the automist features are about to start up. A gardening drone slowly plods through to monitor decay and bugs that might be present. A separate part of the greenhouse houses those plants that might require specific needs or specific insects to be present. The hoverdrone therein is designated to attend to those specific needs, emulating the dusting of bees and so on. A separate quadrant houses a number of chickens bred specifically for egg production. [Homegrown Farming - You will always have access to homegrown organic foods that promote health and well-being. +1 bonus on Health/Stun recovery tests if you recover here.]
A distinct corner of the greenhouse has a tiki lodge connected to the Astral. Multiple masks, torches, and designs of Hawaiian origin mark it to be a magician's stronghold and connection to Kahuna magics. [Aspected Domain - +2 bonus on magic tests made by Kahunas in this location, -2 penalty on magic tests made by magicians of opposing/uncomplimentary traditions.]
If you rode the elevator down into the dark recesses, there's a vast area. It looks like a single level of a parking garage. In fact, storage of supplies seems to be the intent down here, a large quantity of food and water, a micro-generator or three, and other stockpiles intended for an apocalypse, a long siege, or other issues. [Stockpile - year's supply of goods]
You realize when you're down here that this is a place very condusive to building, constructing. Noise doesn't carry so sharply. There's a lot of headroom and legroom to walk about and think. Various card tables are here and there, entire butcher sheets of people with blue pencils. There's enough random kits here to assemble whatever you might want. Just kits, though. There are no actual workshops or construction facilities here yet. [Feng Shui - +3 bonus dice on all attempts to build/construct anything while in the building. ANYTHING. This includes any of these skills: Aeronautics Mechanic, Armorer, Artisan, Automotive Mechanic, Chemistry, Cybertechnology, Demolitions (crafting only), Forgery, Hardware, Industrial Mechanic, Medicine (crafting only), Nautical Mechanic, Software]
Back on the ground floor, you can easily go upstairs into the bedrooms on the second floor and the added third floor. Six bedrooms reside on the second floor and another five on the top floor. The master bedroom on the third floor houses Alexi and Kiwi. One bedroom on each floor seems to be the housing for a number of munitions and weaponry sets, palm readers set into the door locks to prevent people from going and coming as they please. Firearms are reposited here, along with some sensor readouts. There's a matching room in the finished basement. [Security: Luxury Class.]
Summation of game statistics for streamlining of play:
• Kiwi receives a +2 bonus to all Magic and Magic-related tests on the premises. Opposing Magic forces that are not synchronous receive a -2 penalty. This would include toxic shamans, hermetics, and other non-nature-harmonious Traditions. [Aspected Domain]
• Anyone receives a +3 bonus to all Build tests on the premises. This includes any of these skills: Aeronautics Mechanic, Armorer, Artisan, Automotive Mechanic, Chemistry, Cybertechnology, Demolitions (crafting only), Forgery, Hardware, Industrial Mechanic, Medicine (crafting only), Nautical Mechanic, Software. [Feng Shui]
• Anyone receives a +1 bonus to Recovery checks when healing. [Homegrown Farming]
Enemies require three additional hits to get any information about the premises on any Perception tests, be it Astral, Matrix, or Physical. [Privacy Screen 3, all]
• People don't really come by and harass you, gangs aren't very active in this area, and everyone seems a bit more security conscious in this neighborhood. There's a quarter the normal crime rate and neighbors tend to be gentle upper-class folks in upper management. [Quiet Neighborhood]
• You may claim partial cover or total cover anywhere in the building, at any time. [Security Conscious.]
You're unaffected by the outside weather, even in the greenhouse. The house maintains temperature appropriately even if it's 140 degrees fahrenheit or 40 below. [Well Made]
• The building has a ridiculous amount of room to do work, equivalent to the size of a small factory. Everyone could be building something in the basement simultaneously. [Workplace]
• There's been a lot of money invested in stockpiling, particularly in case everyone has to go their separate ways. The stockpile is a year's supply of food, water, rations, electricity, fuel for up to ten people.
• At0m1k is the resident AI that might tax system resources at random, inopportune times. [AI in Residence]
Family members and people you know will show up at the most awkward and inappropriate times. [Crash Pad]
• A number of spirits have been attracted to the location and don't exactly cause excessive trouble, but kicking them out might be necessary from time to time. [Haunted]
• Bills and bill collectors come from all over the place to harass the inhabitants. [No Forwarding Address]
• Random subsentient AIs come by to visit a lot and inhabit the drones and equipment. [Sprite Magnet - might actually do damage to the equipment in the place at random times.]
• Random phonecalls are forwarded to the home network intended for a sexline. [This Isn't Big Bob's Autos]
• The security is pretty cutting-edge. There's a few automated gun systems on site, a few guard spirits in the area, six members of a neighborhood watch, biometric locks on doors that require privacy (but the living room is easily breached by anyone that knows the household members), a spiderbot that patrols quietly and stays out of sight, and a half-dozen drones that work in the botanical gardens. [Luxury Security, all Devices have a rating of 6 and all guards have a Professional rating of 6.]
Well all I have to say is hot damn. Might not be difficult to get Ironsight to move with all of those crafting perks and workspace. And she'll no doubt be interested in working up modifications to the defensive armaments of the place as well.
ReplyDeleteKiwi threw a lot of money into it ^^
DeleteThe autoturrets are a neighborhood security thing more than a private security thing. Outfitting it like a fortress is a good idea if the group winds up pissing off someone big (guaranteed) and eventually D33G33/Ironsight can work together to improve the biometric locks on everything and structurally improve the doors in general.
DeleteIt's an awesome house, but putting some IC love into it will make it even more awesome.
